Speed Up My Job Search

Daily & Weekly Goals

Setting Daily and Weekly Goals

Having a plan will focus your actions and get you there faster. In this video, learn how to use the planner to set up a week in advance. You simply input how many hours you have available to work on your search each week, and the planner will tell you exactly when to do what. If you put in less than 20 hours, it will assume you are employed and adjust accordingly. Having a plan, knowing when to schedule your social media time, networking time, calling time, and all other search tasks is ESSENTIAL for success. This video will show you how.

The Goal Tracking tool I recommend is Coach.me (they changed their name from Lift.do, and I’d recommend the free Habit Tracker). After you set up your free account, Join the Speed Up My Job Search plan available (also free). That will show you which videos to complete each day, in which order. You can complete this program in 16 days or less if you follow this plan, and you can set up reminders for yourself at specific times of the day or week to keep you going. It will keep you on track.

Click Here for your Weekly Planner. This is an Excel document that allows you to plug in the hours you can dedicate to your search this week. It also suggests tasks for you each day, and calculates how much time you should spend on each task, at the right time of day.

Check your StartWire account first thing in the morning and right before you sign off for the night.

Use Your Head to Get Your Foot in the Door, Job Search Secrets No One Else Will Tell You by Harvey Mackay. Harvey Mackay is known mostly for his strategic books on how to be successful in business. However, in this book he takes his strategic approach to success and applies it to the job search. He is one of the ultimate success stories, and has done some incredible things on a huge scale. To give you an idea of the level this guy is on, check out the list of his friends who endorse the book: Larry King, Shaquille O’Neal, and Lou Holtz. He shows you how to present your product (you) well enough to land that big account (a job).

Harvey’s books always have a motivational spin to them, and this is no different. He helps you understand the importance of attitude, and more importantly, he helps you put on the right one. Sales people deal with rejection regularly, and job seekers will get their share of it. He shows you not only how to handle it, but how to take advantage of it. My favorite aspect of this book is the importance Harvey puts on maintaining your network, offering solid strategies to help you do that. I had the privilege of interviewing Mr. Mackay on Job Talk about this book, please enjoy it.
